Field Group is a global provider of geospatial intelligence, supplying ultra-high-resolution panoramic imagery and video data for environmental, urban, and infrastructure sectors. Their operations process files exceeding 20,000 x 10,000 pixels, under strict GDPR and data integrity requirements. Speed, compliance, and automation aren’t luxuries — they’re prerequisites.
Challenge
Field Group faced a mission-critical challenge at the heart of their data delivery pipeline: anonymization. Every panoramic image and video needed to obscure faces, bodies, and license plates — not just for visual integrity, but to remain compliant with strict GDPR mandates across the EU.
But their existing workflow was manual, error-prone, and slow — built on legacy code, outdated GPU routines, and post-processing corrections. What should have been a seamless, background task became a bottleneck that exposed the entire operation to risk.
Core problems included:
- Processing time: ~6 seconds per image on outdated GPU stacks
- Detection accuracy: inconsistent — required daily human intervention
- Workflow downtime: several hours lost each day due to system instability
- Data quality: blur masks were unstandardized and often misaligned
- GDPR compliance: no consistent audit trail or proof of anonymization
These weren’t minor inefficiencies – they were operational liabilities. Every manual correction increased the chance of human error. Every delay risked missed SLAs. Every imprecise blur raised the specter of a compliance breach.

Our Strategic Approach
We began with deep technical audits and workshops alongside the client’s CTO and data operations team.
Key insights:
- The real bottleneck wasn’t volume — it was the first 2 seconds of every image: detection, classification, segmentation
- Their legacy GPU stack couldn’t handle dense, multi-object environments efficiently
- GDPR risk stemmed not from data capture — but from inconsistent anonymization and proof-of-processing gaps
Our goal:
design an AI pipeline that’s faster than manual, smarter than pixel masks, and auditable at scale.
Execution: AI-Powered Precision at Production Scale
We developed code2blur, a high-performance anonymization engine fully integrated with Field Group’s ETL pipeline — combining AI accuracy, GPU acceleration, and regulatory-grade compliance.
Computer Vision Models
We combined YOLOv8, Mask R-CNN, and Segment Anything to detect full-body figures and vehicles with high confidence — even in dense, panoramic scenes.
Full Automation
Manual corrections eliminated. The system achieved stable, production-grade precision with zero reprocessing or fallback logic.
Infrastructure
Delivered as a Dockerized, plug-and-play module, ready to slot into existing workflows — no rewrites, full control.

Designed with ISO 27001-aligned architecture: traceable logs, versioned output, and full GDPR defensibility.
Code2Blur Tech Stack
Code2Blur was engineered for performance, precision, and compliance—built to process ultra-high-resolution imagery in real time, under strict GDPR constraints. The anonymization engine combines Python and C++, balancing rapid development with low-level performance optimizations.
At its core, PyTorch powers deep learning–based object detection and segmentation, while OpenCV handles pre- and post-processing, including image transforms and mask application. Inference speed is maximized through TensorRT, enabling GPU-accelerated runtime performance for dense, multi-object scenes.
The full pipeline is containerized using Docker, ensuring portability, scalability, and consistent behavior across environments—from on-premise deployments to secure cloud processing.
Results:
In just six weeks, code2blur transformed Field Group’s anonymization process from a fragile manual task into a scalable, audit-ready engine:
- Processing time cut by 66% (6.0s → 2.0s per image)
- 100% precision and recall — zero false negatives, zero manual reviews
- Manual errors eliminated entirely
- Workflow downtime reduced to zero
- Operational throughput scaled 3×
- Full GDPR compliance with versioned, auditable logs
But the real impact went beyond speed and accuracy.
