Mobile Applicaton Case Study
TipTip
Mobile-first platform that lets workers receive digital tips instantly and directly
Client profile
TipTip is a Poland-based fintech startup on a mission to transform tipping. In a sector where card payments replaced cash, service workers were left behind - with fewer tips and less control over their earnings. TipTip created a mobile-first platform that lets workers receive digital tips instantly and directly, without employer interference or delay. Its core values: empowerment, transparency, and ownership.
Challenge
As card payments became the default, traditional tipping collapsed.
Even when routed through POS systems, only 45–55% of tips reached staff.
The mission:
Create a frictionless, digital-first tipping system where 100% of the tip goes directly to the worker – instantly, transparently, and securely.
Initial Situation
- 0% digital tipping; 100% cash-dependent
- Staff only received 45–55% of tips through terminals
- No income tracking, analytics, or real-time payouts
- Delayed or pooled tip settlements
- No regulatory foundation or financial licensing
Our Strategic Approach
We led TipTip from concept to compliant fintech launch.
Through behavioral research and UX interviews, we identified two primary pain points:
Lack of trust in how tips are handled
Friction in digital tipping behavior
We designed a staff-first experience with QR/NFC and embedded real-time payout visibility — aligned with Poland’s accelerating move toward cashless payments.
From Zero to Regulated Fintech in 8 Months
We didn’t just deliver code: we delivered confidence, compliance, and control in a sector where failure means fines, fraud, or a failed launch. Our scope covered product design, architecture, compliance infrastructure, and post-launch scalability. This was a ground-up execution. Here’s how we built it - and why each decision mattered:
Cross-Platform Delivery:
We developed a fully native experience on both iOS and Android using Flutter — not to reduce cost, but to optimize speed-to-market without compromising UX performance. This allowed us to maintain pixel-perfect parity across devices, simplifying support and updates with one unified codebase.
Backend Built for Scale and Security
Using Node.js and PostgreSQL, we built a modular, API-first architecture designed to handle real-time payments and data encryption. Hosted on GCP, we ensured compliance with both Polish and EU-level data localization laws, while maintaining 99.9% uptime.
Payment Integration with tPay
Real-time payouts were not optional — they were the product. We integrated tPay with full reconciliation flows, enabling users to receive tips daily, directly to their personal bank accounts. This was a strategic differentiator — no pooling, no delays, no employer dependencies.
NFC/QR Identity System
Each staff member was assigned a personalized, scannable QR/NFC tag linked to their wallet. This transformed tipping into a 3-second gesture: scan, choose amount, send. The result: no apps required for tippers, no intermediaries, and near-zero friction at point of service.
Live Tip Dashboard
We embedded a full user analytics suite: Tip volume per shift, Payout history, 7-day/30-day trend lines, Performance tracking by location This wasn’t vanity data. It allowed users to track income like a business, turning them into financially literate earners — a key point for investor positioning.
KYC/AML with Biometric Verification
We implemented a fully compliant KYC pipeline using facial recognition, document scans, and fraud detection triggers. The system was built to pass KNF-level scrutiny from day one. No third-party hacks — just controlled, audited processes tied into our payout stack.
Regulatory Compliance: KNF MIP License
Working hand-in-hand with legal advisors, we established full internal protocols aligned with Small Payment Institution (MIP) guidelines: Capital thresholds, Client fund segregation, Risk reporting, GDPR & AML harmonization We didn’t just pass the audit. We passed on first attempt, setting the stage for market entry and investor conversations.
Deployment and Iteration
The app was launched to both App Store and Google Play with full CI/CD automation. We built an internal monitoring system for: App performance and crash logs, Transaction exceptions, KYC failures, Conversion funnel drop-offs Within the first month, we released 3 iterations based on live feedback — validating our ability to move fast after launch, not just before.
TipTip Tech Stack
We selected Flutter as our primary technology for several compelling reasons.
Flutter enables us to develop visually appealing applications for both mobile platforms (iOS and Android) from a single codebase, leading to a reduction in development time and a consistent user experience across platforms.
Flutter’s rich set of fully-customizable widgets makes it easy to create intuitive and complex user interfaces.

Frequently asked questions
Clear answers to the questions we hear most often
Why did TipTip decide to create its own tipping system?
Cash tips have been rapidly declining due to the rise of card and mobile payments. Traditional POS systems often deducted high commissions and delayed payouts, leaving workers with no control or visibility. TipTip was built to give employees full ownership of their tips and instant access to their money.
How does the digital tipping process work for customers and staff?
The customer scans a unique QR or NFC tag assigned to the specific worker and sends a tip in seconds—no login or app installation required. The money goes directly to the worker’s account with no middlemen or employer involvement. It’s fast, secure, and 100% transparent.
Is the system legally compliant and secure?
Yes. TipTip operates as a licensed Small Payment Institution (MIP) regulated by Poland’s Financial Supervision Authority (KNF). It includes full KYC/AML compliance, biometric identity verification, and GDPR-aligned data protection standards, all verified through a successful regulatory audit.
What results has TipTip delivered in practice?
Over 182,000 digital tips were processed, with an average tip value of 17.38 PLN. The mobile app has a 4.7/5 rating in the App Store, and workers report significantly higher tip income compared to traditional methods. The platform has been widely adopted in hospitality and continues to grow in usage.
